In Leadville, Colorado, the army leaded by Captain Rhodes (Ving Rhames) seal off the town to contain an epidemics of a mysterious disease similar to influenza. The locals are not allowed to leave Leadville and the Pine Valley Medical Center is crowded of sick people. Corporal Sarah Bowman (Mena Suvari) was born and raised in Leadville and goes to her home with Private Bud Crain (Stark Sands) to visit her mother. Sarah finds that she is ill and takes her to the local hospital; however, the sick people suddenly transform in flesh eater zombies with fast movements, attacking the non-infected humans. Sarah, Bud and Private Salazar (Nick Cannon) get a jeep and head to the town exit to escape from the dead. But Sarah listens to the voice of her brother Trevor (Michael Welch) in the radio and she drives to the radio station where Trevor is hidden with his girlfriend Nina (AnnaLynne McCord). The group of survivors drives to the isolated Nike factory seeking shelter, where they disclose an underground facility of the army. Sooner they discover that the scientists were researching a biochemical agent that has mutated and initiated the fatal outbreak.

"Day of the Dead" is not a remake of George A. Romero classic; actually it is a flawed action movie developed in a fast pace and lots of gore. I did not like zombies moving fast, since the slow movements are creepy; but the intention of this movie is to have fun with black humor (the vegetarian zombie is hilarious), and not to frighten the viewer. The mignon Mena Suvari is very beautiful and has a good performance. Unfortunately the character Trevor is unpleasant and has weird and unusual attitudes. In the end, this movie entertains and is underrated in IMDb User rating. My vote is seven.
